Postbacks, partner credit, and why finance asks different questions
Measurement partners and ad networks often show different install totals. Aligning postbacks is the fastest way to calm that weekly argument.
Finance teams care about invoices. Growth teams care about incremental users. App install attribution insights sit between those two needs, and postbacks are the handshake that either keeps them aligned or fuels weekly debates.
Inventory every network that receives install or event postbacks. Confirm event names match what the network expects and that rejected installs (fraud flags, duplicate devices) are not silently re-credited elsewhere.
When totals diverge, pull a sample of twenty install IDs and walk them from click to postback. Most gaps come from mismatched event names, delayed batch sending, or timezone settings that shift midnight cutoffs.
Keep a shared glossary: install, reinstall, re-engagement, and in-app purchase. If partners redefine those terms differently, no dashboard will reconcile the numbers.
A short monthly attribution briefing that includes postback health saves longer forensic sessions later. Treat postback accuracy as a hygiene task, not a crisis response.
